What to Expect


Tesla s Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high quality component parts into Tesla s production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches.

What You ll Do

  • Support vehicle trials.

  • Support line side with sorting / rework instruction development and execution, training operators or technician to carry those instructions on a proper manner.
  • Engage SIE, engineering and design team members for driving resolution to quality issues related to suppliers
  • Engage with suppliers on developing short term containment actions and long-term corrective actions to quality issues

  • Work onsite on a daily basisSupport on data collection / analysis to identify failure trends and collaborate facilitating this data to Engineering, SIE and other Failure Analysis teams
  • Responsible of Supplier Quality Performance at the factorySCAR follow up and management from beginning to end
What You ll Bring

  • BS/MS Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering or evidence of experience and exceptional ability

  • 5+ years of component or assembly plant experience supporting Mechanical, Electrical or similar in a Project Management, Supplier Quality, Process Engineering, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering role Knowledge or Experience in Quality Systems a plus:

  • PPAP/APQP processes Display an advanced working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Lean Manufacturing, and how to apply these skills to improve quality, capacity, and reduce cost Possess demonstrable leadership abilities

  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level

  • Proven results in meeting customer requirements and expectations

  • Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques

  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Excellent team building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers and other functional areas

  • Strong verbal and technical writing ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner An average of 50% travel, possibly on short notice

  • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment Experience introducing new products and new processes from a prototype environment to a production environment

  • Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation Experience designing production line layouts in AutoCAD

  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines Well organized with meticulous attention to detail
