POSITION: Dakota Language Coordinator
PROGRAM: Culture Language Arts Network (CLAN)
Technology Assisted Language Keeps (TALK)
HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours/week
SCHEDULE: Flexible/varied some days, evenings and weekends
SALARY: $48,000 per year, benefits eligible
The Culture Language Arts Network (CLAN) Technology Assisted Language Keepers (TALK) is a program that strengthens community coordination to increase interest in learning Native languages (Ojibwe & Dakota) and expands Native language learning opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinator and utilize resources of curriculum that is suitable for Introductory and Intermediate Dakota classes
- Coordinate with language consultant/s weekly for Introductory and Intermediate Dakota classes for youth and adults
- Work with staff, consultants and partnering agencies to coordinate cultural community language infused activities and events
- Work with Native youth and technology to create and complete language projects
- Participate in Advisory Council meetings
- Work with language instructional team to develop language learner assessment strategies and tools for tracking development of proficiency and implements
- Assist in developing flyers and other methods of advertising for classes, activities and events
- Attend staff meetings
- Attend grantee meetings and orientations as program budget permits
- Meet all grant requirements according to work plan
- Various other duties as assigned by Program Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA in American Indian Studies or related field or comparable work experience
- Familiar with Dakota language, written and verbal skills
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom and other technology Possess excellent motivational and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, demonstrate initiative and have a strong work ethic
- Knowledge and understanding of American Indian culture and community
- Must pass criminal background check
- No current drug/alcohol/substance abuse related problems
- Valid Minnesota driver’s license and proof of current insurance is favorable
