Veterinary Technician

We are currently looking for a part-time, SATURDAY ONLY, 2x/month Veterinary Technician to join our team at our private veterinary clinic in Monterey. We are ideally seeking an RVT (licensed/registered) OR a highly experienced Veterinary Assistant. Vet clinic experience (1+ years) highly recommended. Pay is negotiable contingent on applicant experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Veterinary Technician is the doctor s primary medical support person. They assist the doctor throughout examinations, diagnoses, surgical procedures, and treatment phases. They aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with fosters and guardians about their pets. They are also responsible for caring for boarded or hospitalized dogs and maintaining a neat and sanitary work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:
- Provide compassionate care to patients/clients.
- Perform all duties in accordance with clinic policies and procedures.
- Assist the doctors in medical, surgical, and dental procedures. Prepare patients for surgery, assist the doctors in administering anesthesia, monitor patients during surgery and recovery.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suite.
- Assist in restraining pets for various treatments (exams, blood draws, IV catheter placements, radiographs, SQ fluids, etc).
- Give injections and administer oral medications in accordance with hospital policy.
- Perform clinical laboratory analysis on in-house lab machines and ensure that test results are recorded in patient records.
- Position and restrain patients for obtaining radiographs.
- Admit and discharge patients to the clinic.
- Knowledge of veterinary pharmaceuticals and ability to explain them to the clients.
- Clean all surgical materials after they are used; keep the surgical suite properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
- Assist other staff members as needed and perform other duties as delegated.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
We are looking for an individual who enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain; can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis; is able to work effectively with doctors; is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all hospital staff members; and who has excellent client communication skills.

Pay: From $27.00 per hour
