Job Summary:

The main responsibility of a Penske Refrigeration Technician is to perform a comprehensive assessment of various types of motor truck and trailer equipment and carry out repairs, adjustments, and maintenance operations with a specific focus on cooling units intended for commercial trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer maintenance support for various refrigeration units, primarily emphasizing on Carrier and/or Thermo King commercial refrigeration machines tailored for commercial trucks and trailers.
  • Test equipment for electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems are essential tools in troubleshooting and validating the integrity of lines, components and connections
  • Interpret intricate diagrams pertaining to refrigeration and air conditioning apparatus.
  • Identify necessary repairs that can be justified and documented by the repair order to avoid any misunderstanding with the customer
  • Keeping the work environment clean and organized is essential for both appearance and safety
  • Conduct vehicle road tests as needed to detect mechanical issues or ensure their functionality.
  • Execute responsibilities independently and complete tasks promptly and competently
  • Employ the use of manual tools like screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, precision devices, and pressure gauges, alongside automated machinery such as jacks, hoists, pneumatic wrenches, lathes, and welding equipment.
  • Tractor trailer maintenance is crucial for ensuring the safety of both the driver and others on the road. By conducting preventative maintenance, location management can avoid costly repairs and improve the overall performance of their fleet
  • Verify that the size and dimension of every part comply with the manufacturer's standards by carrying out an inspection.
  • Additional assignments and responsibilities given by the manager

Qualifications:

  • At least six years of hands-on experience in the maintenance of tractor trailer is a must-have requirement
  • Completion of a secondary education program or an equivalent thereof is compulsory
  • It is preferred that vocational or technical education, or certification, be obtained
  • Proficient skills and hands-on experience on refrigeration systems' refurbishing is mandatory
  • ASE Certification preferred
  • 608/609 certifications preferred
  • Competency in operating and utilizing all essential equipment of the profession is essential
  • An air brake certification included with a current CDL license is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is a prerequisite
  • The candidate must have the capability to operate in an environment that lacks climate control
  • The team member must have a complete grasp on the given instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or any other related data provided by Penske leadership and follow them accordingly
  • The employee is required to execute their job duties while upholding DOT, OSHA, and Penske's safety and maintenance protocols, which encompass using the correct tools, Personal Protective Equipment, machine guards, and adhering to established safety standards.
  • Being present on a regular, consistent basis is a fundamental requirement for this job
  • The willingness to travel as needed, fulfill the schedule requirements, work from the designated location, complete the Penske job application, undergo a background check (including past professional and educational history, as well as criminal record), and take a drug test are all mandatory.
  • The Department of Transportation or the company has assigned certain job positions as safety sensitive and it is imperative that individuals maintain a constant state of alertness and work safely.
