POSITION OVERVIEW


The Manager, Communications will play a key role in enhancing and protecting the reputation of NBME and its brands among stakeholders, employees, the media, and the health care community.


This role is responsible for managing external communications for our products and services, crisis communications, and media relations.


This role reports to the VP, Marketing and Communications.


This role has been designated as primarily remote which means it generally does not require onsite work more than an average of 2-3 times per month and may require additional prescheduled onsite work.


We're open to considering candidates in the following states : PA, NJ, DE and MD.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Works in collaboration with the marketing department and other communication staff to manage external and internal communications activities related to our products and services and leads crisis and media relations.



Creates and maintains crisis and communication plans and manuals.



  • Oversees media training. Maintains and distributes organizational talking points and statements.

  • Coordinate NBME's response to media requests for interviews and information, including triaging calls, drafting talking points, counseling spokesperson.

  • Key member of the Incident Management Team (IMT) tasked with attending all meetings and creating specific talking points and statements.

  • Liaison between the Marketing and Communications Division and customer service providing boilerplate language and providing key expertise on FAQs created by the programs and other internal units as well as responses to relevant inquiries.

  • Drafts and issues public statements on behalf of NBME (e.g. press releases) and creates content for NBME publications (e.


g. impact reports and newsletters).



  • Manages communications consultants and agencies as needed.

  • Advisor on publications and graphic standards; provides support to other departments for program specific publications to ensure consistent messaging and adherence to brand and graphic standards.


Manages copy approvals for projects in collaboration with Legal Services and other cross functional partners.



  • Creates and maintains NBME Proofing and Style Guide and advises staff on adherence to editorial and graphic identity standards.

  • Partners with marketing, brand communications, creative services and market research on divisional projects as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required .


Skills and Abilities



  • Able to be proactive vs. reactive.

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, proof reading, and speaking.

  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and proactively.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to details.

  • Support for NBME's DEI commitments.

  • Flexible, able to adapt to change.


Experience



  • Must have a working knowledge of media practices and generally accepted business practices for the profession of public relations, and communications practice.

  • Must have strong media relations skills including on-the-record experience.

  • At least 4-5 years of communication experience.

  • Health care content experience preferred

  • Experience with crisis and media relations.


Education



Requires a BA / BS in communications, English, journalism, or public relations; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
