Purpose and Scope
Perform a variety of controls engineering assignments. Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) to support project development such as: design, installation, operation, and maintenance of controls systems. Control systems include electrical, HVAC, compressed air, wastewater, and potable water distribution located at various facilities around the Kennedy Space Center which include administrative support facilities, flight hardware support and processing facilities, launch pad facilities, laboratories, and various other mission support facilities.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities
Perform a wide range of controls design, development, analysis, and review tasks under the supervision of the Lead Controls Design Engineer and Senior Controls Design Engineers. Generate complete controls system design details and specifications for projects involving HVAC systems, Electrical systems, Water Systems, and cable and wire routing. Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from initial requirements development to final design including all design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications. Develop and maintain technical and specification documentation which comply with contract and government documentation standards and procedures. Prepare, review, and submit technical papers and engineering studies. Conduct site visits and investigations to analyze engineering problems and to propose solutions alternative methods, or recommendations for these problems. Coordinate effectively with various engineering disciplines, NASA customer, field technicians, project managers, CAD drafters, and program management through written and verbal communications. Contribute to the development, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of the Kennedy Complex Control System (http://kennedyspacecenter.com/) (KCCS) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System and various facility Building Automation System (BAS) controls software. Contribute to the development, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of various Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems from an ABET accredited program or related field and 10+ years of experience in the areas defined in this job posting. Excellent communications and analytical skills with a working knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Successful completion of the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) exam preferred, but not required. Familiarity with programming and configuring PLCs. Familiarity with software development tools and programming concepts. Familiarity with SpecsIntact, Microstation, Acrobat, and AutoCAD. Ability and desire to expand knowledge of other controls and automation systems.
Other Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen (no exceptions) and be able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position. Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must relocate to the local area-considerable on site support is required
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
